Greyton's MTB trails range from Easy, Intermediate, Difficult and Very Difficult

Our arrow boards display the IMBA symbols for trail grading. Together with this, we use colour arrows for simplicity:

  • Green Arrow - Easy 

  • Blue Arrow - Intermediate

  • Red Arrow - Difficult

  • Black Arrow - Very Difficult

FOREST TRAIL

Description:

The forest is a great spot for families and friends to ride together without straying too far from the village. Shaded, flat and fun to ride with a few berms and table tops to test those mountain bike skills - makes it the perfect route for beginners and folks new to the sport.
Directions:
Facing the Hub+Spoke, follow the GREEN arrow RIGHT taking you down the road and out of town onto the dirt R406. Crossing the Gobos river bridge, follow the GREEN arrow right and into the FOREST - you're set to go.
GREEN ROUTE - SANDPIT 
Distance: 9.6km

Description:

The new Sandpit is the perfect place for a beginner to experience a little more wilderness, on this almost flat trail. With a good mix of jeep and single track - the new route offers some wonderful scenery and a few exciting little nooks and crannies to explore.
 
Directions:
Facing the Hub+Spoke, follow the GREEN arrow RIGHT taking you down the road and out of town onto the dirt R406. Crossing the Gobos river bridge, follow the GREEN arrow right and into the FOREST - you're set to go.
As you finish the final leg of this trail and exit the Forest back onto the R406, notice a LIGHT BLUE LINK arrow pointing RIGHT. This offers a LINK option to the beginning of the 1st Bench Trail.
GREEN ROUTE - Village 
Distance: 5km
Elevation: 54m
Difficulty: EASY

Description:

This is an easy trail of road, jeep track and some single track. It circumnavigates the village in a clockwise direction. The final leg home is fun single track which hugs the banks of the Gobos river - please be mindful of joggers and walkers on this section of trail.

1ST BENCH 
Distance: 10Km
Elevation: 183m
Difficulty: INTERMEDIATE

Description:

The 1st Bench loop is a fantastic adventure with rolling hills, wilderness and beautiful views. The Old Potter’s Trail takes the rider into a hidden valley, it’s an adventure in its self. Next is The Real+Simple climb  which offers an easy ascent to the top jeep track and view point from 1st Bench.  After all the climbing comes the fast and fun Bone Shaker descent.
Directions:
Facing the Hub+Spoke, follow the LIGHT BLUE arrow RIGHT taking you down the road and out of town onto the dirt R406. Once you cross the Gobos River follow the LIGHT BLUE arrow LEFT, you're set to go.
At 3,8kms you will find a junction point with two options. A LIGHT BLUE arrow pointing LEFT keeping you on the trail to 1st Bench and a GREEN LINK arrow pointing straight. This LINK option allows the rider to descend to the Sandpit on the GREEN Route - for an easier route home.
2ND BENCH - KNIETJIES

Elevation: 230m
Difficulty: INTERMEDIATE

Description:

This trail was completed in 2019 and comprises of stunning scenery, sweeping gentle climbs, super tube berms and a fantastic downhill finish called the R.I.P. 

An intermediate, non technical, smooth dirt trail but by no means boring. If you have great skills, you’ll end up railing the the outer edge of some of the large berms and connecting with the rhyme of this trail.

Facing the Hub+Spoke, follow the LIGHT BLUE arrow LEFT up the road, over the crossroad and pass the Post House on your left, you're set to go.
WRECK ROUTE
Distance: 20km
Elevation: 321m
Difficulty: INTERMEDIATE/DIFFICULT
Approximate ride time: 1 Hour and 30 Minutes
Arrows: DARK BLUE

Description:

This trail starts mostly on road. 7km in the trail

deviates left onto Single Track. The return leg undulates below the Bakenskop mountain range on a flowing mix of single track and Jeep Track.

Facing the Hub+Spoke, follow the DARK BLUE arrow LEFT up the road, over the crossroad and pass the Post House on your left, you're set to go.

LUISLANG TRAIL 
Distance: 11km
Elevation: 278m
Difficulty: DIFFICULT

Description:

Luislang is a fast cross country loop of Single Track and some Jeep Track and Road. With a fairly tough climb at the midway point and the Rocky Horror Climb as the final pinch, the route offers a sweet reward with the famous Luislang descent, gnarly, loose and beautiful.

BAKENSKOP RED 
Distance: 20km
Elevation: 383m
Difficulty: DIFFICULT

Description:

Bakenskop Red hosts the famous Bakenskop switch-back climb. A tough but beautiful trail taking you deep into the mountains South of Greyton. Shortly after summiting the switchback climb, you'll have the option of taking the BLACK arrow RIGHT on the Bakens Black section. This trail is marked black diamond and is technical in places. Both RED and BLACK options utilise the same trail home as the WRECK ROUTE.
